Details
Speer has earned its reputation primarily among law enforcement officers for exceptional reliability and performance. Speer dominates the LE market with their Gold Dot ammo and many law enforcement professionals like to shoot with similar power loads in their training ammo to get as close to the same recoil as their more expensive premium JHP duty ammo. This Speer Lawman ammo is designed specifically to meet this need for high quality training and target practice ammo.
This ammo features a Total Metal Jacket bullet meaning that there is no exposed lead at the base of the bullet like standard FMJ bullets making this a great choice if you do most of your training at indoor ranges. This cartridge is brass-cased, boxer-primed, non-corrosive, and reloadable. Speer is owned and operated by ATK, the same company that owns Federal.

Video Transcript:
Speer is part of the ATK family ammo brands along with Federal, Estate and several others. ATK is one of the largest ammo companies in the world and all of their ammo is made here in the United States. The Speer brand is known mostly for producing self-defense ammo, like the famous Speer Gold Dot, but they also make products designed for training, like the Speer Lawman in 9mm.
Most of the ammo in the Lawman line is loaded to slightly higher velocities than normal in order to mimic the recoil impulse of the more powerful Gold Dot self-defense loads. This round is the Lawman 124 grain 9mm. Even though it's a non+P, standard velocity round it has a muzzle velocity of 1,090 feet per second, which is just 60 feet per second shy of its +P Gold Dot counterpart. This provides slightly more recoil than the average 115 grain plinking load and makes a great stand in for hollow-point ammo while doing serious self-defense practice.
Every cartridge includes a boxer-primed reloadable brass case. The lead core bullet is encased in the special Speer total metal jacket. Most full metal jackets leave the lead base exposed, but Speer's total metal jacket completely encases the bullet. This allows for slightly less toxic lead residue to be in the air when a round is fired, which is an ideal feature when training on an indoor range.
All of the ATK brands are known for consistency and reliability. And Speer Lawman is no different. We experienced flawless feeding and extraction in five different pistols and one carbine. It also provided outstanding accuracy, which was tested from the bench at 20 yards with a Beretta CX4 carbine. All 10 rounds impacted in a one inch group right around the point of aim.
This is the kind of performance we've come to expect from the Lawman line and it may be some of the most accurate practicing ammo on the market. The 124 grain Speer Lawman is not just a good substitute for hotter self-defense ammo, it's accurate, reliable and has just about anything you would want in a practice load, including reloadable brass.
