The Blazer brand is ATK's economical line of practice ammo and comes in multiple calibers, available with either brass or aluminum shell cases. For this review, we shot a couple of boxes of Blazer Brass 115 grain 9 millimeter. Like the name suggests, it features a reloadable brass case with a noncorrosive primer. Despite the FMJ marking on the box, Blazer Brass ammo does not have a standard full metal jacket bullet, but instead uses a less expensive copper-plated bullet. The difference is mostly in the manufacturing process. But for the shooter, it's worth noting that plated bullets do not have an exposed lead base and are better for indoor ranges, where exposure to airborne lead particles can be an issue. It's not recommended, however, to use plated bullets in conjunction with ported barrels since the ports can shear off the copper plating. In terms of reliability, the Blazer Brass that we tested performed just fine in all six of our test guns, with no failures or malfunctions. We tested accuracy from the fence at 15 yards using a Glock 19, and other than one shooter-induced flyer there, we got a pretty good results. Along with other ATK ammo brands, I found the cases for Blazer Brass to work really well in my reloading press. For whatever reason, it seems to clean up easier, and go through my press more smoothly than some of the other brass cases that I've used. If you don't reload, then check out Blazer Aluminum as a slightly cheaper alternative. But for quality reloadable ammo, Blazer Brass is definitely a good choice.
